January 13, 2014 the first private university of the Udmurt Republic, Kamsky Institute of Humanitarian and Engineering Technologies, celebrated 21 years old.
In the year 1993 under the patronage of the Russian Academy of engineering, the higher college «Aeromech» on the basis of the Izhevsk Mechanical Institute (Kalashnikov Izhevsk State University), was founded.
In 1996 the higher college acquired a status of the Non-State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education «Kamsky Institute of Humanitarian and Engineering technologies (KIHET)», and received the first own license to a higher professional education.
The Institute has been dynamically developed with active participation of engineers, scientists and teachers of Udmurt Republic, under patronage of the Russian and International Engineering Academies, members of which are outstanding scientists, engineers, heads of leading industrial companies of the Russian Federation. From the first the Institute is supported by the leadership of Udmurt Republic (ministries, departments, industrial enterprises, scientific institutes) and also by state higher educational institutions of Izhevsk and Moscow, public and intellectuals.
Over the years more than ten thousand citizens of Udmurtia and the neighboring regions were awarded with diplomas on higher professional education of the Kamsky Institute; more than six thousands of them were awarded with state diplomas, after successfully passing the first state accreditation in 2001.
At the present time KIHET trains over two thousand five hundred students and listeners in more than 50 educational programs of 11 generalized groups of specialties (applied bachelor’s degree, academic bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, postgraduate studies, further training and vocational retraining).
There is a good demand for graduates, especially in engineering fields, on the regional labor market. The need for graduates of the Institute is confirmed by employers of the republic for 4-5 years ahead. According to monitoring the effectiveness of Russian universities for 2013, the Institute has a 100% rate of employment of graduates.
The Institute has cooperation agreements with many large enterprises of the republic and the Volga Federal District, training grounds are created.
The enterprise JSC «Spetsgazavtotrans» of the JSC «Gazprom» (Izhevsk) is the base for the Department of Oil and Gas Technology. Laboratory work and practical exercises are conducted in the laboratories of the company.
The Institute graduates successfully work at JSC «Gazprom», JSC «Rosneft», JSC «Transneft», JSC «Spetsgazavtotrans», LLC «Izhstroygaz», JSC «Belkamneft», LLC «Gazprom Marketing Izhevsk», LLC «LUKOIL-Permnefteprodukt» and many others.
Students of the Institute take an active part in competitions for grants, win prizes in Russian and regional exhibitions and student festivals.
In April 2014, students of the Institute have successfully performed at the International Physics Olympiad in Ufa (Bashkortostan), where they won gold and bronze medals. Three times in recent years students of the Institute became holders of the President of the Russian Federation scholarship.
In 2013 virtual branch of the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) which provides an electronic version of its exposition, was opened at the Institute.
Students and teachers exhibit their works in the Institute’s Gallery of Art and Technology «Harp», publish their scientific articles in the journal «Vestnik KIGIT» and represent the creative works in the literary periodical «Italmas», post news and journalist articles in the newspapers «Education and Career» and «Studen».
The Institute has a modern educational and laboratory base, the learning process is provided by highly qualified teachers.
KIHET is actively implementing a program of research, so in 2013 the volume of research work carried out by the Institute, amounted to about 6 million rubles. Among the priority areas are the technosphere safety, energy and resource saving, management and economics.
In recent years, continuing to confirm its status, the institute in a row won the prize in the contest «100 best universities in Russia», «Gold Medal. European Quality», and became winner of numerous other competitions and exhibitions, etc. The Кamsky Institute also received the official status of «The Universiade Institution-2013».
The Institute is included in the Technical Universities Association of the Russian Federation. The rector is a member of the Council of Presidents of the Non-state Institutions Association of the Russian Federation, executive vice president of the Russian Engineering Academy (REA), member of the Council of Presidents of International Engineering Academy, deputy chairman, member of the Presidium of the Supreme Engineering Council of the Russian Federation.
In 2012, the Kamsky Institute opened a new page in its history: among the few of the Russian private universities, for the first time in the history of Russian education, it won more than 200 budget places in eight educational areas (index 3 in Russia for private educational institutions). Since then another three hundred forty-budget places in higher education programs have been got.
According to the rating in June and July 2014, compiled by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in cooperation with the Association of private higher educational institutions of Russia, the Kamsky Institute was included in the first group of 18 private universities with the best performance indicators.
The Kamsky Institute today has a perpetual license and state accreditation until June 2016, successfully implementing a five-year (2011 - 2016) program of development.
